I am Betsy Lauder, owner of BL Designworks. Before I began building bamboo fly rods, I fished them - in the lakes, streams and rivers of Colorado and the East. I became captivated by the connection between form and function, the natural elements common to bamboo and water, and the two hearts that burned on either end of the line. Now, every thought, feeling and movement that go into the creation of BLD fly rods carry the wonder and gratitude for the beauty and power of a Rainbow, the magical arc of bamboo, and the thin ray of light between them.

I studied under George Mauer aka "Dr. Bamboo", owner of SweetWater Rods, who taught me that each rod should be an extension of myself. The rods I build follow that philosophy.

I have been building bamboo fly rods for over thirteen years. While I have studied the masters, I have also incorporated into my rods technologies and techniques that make my rods a personal expression of my love for fly fishing. I would like to build one for you.
